An Oxford councillor has published a self-penned, self-published, “saucy” novel in order to raise money for Cancer Research.
Mick Haines’ book The Merry Go Round of Life was published in September after it was previously rejected by publishers in the 60s. The book, set in the 60s follows two men, Roy and Tony who live in Oxford. One of the characters, Roy, has several flings however Tony is married with children.
Haines said the character of Roy was based on himself, adding that: “It was done from my own life. I’m Roy, I had a good run.”
The author previously worked as a scaffolder as does the character of Roy, so far his project has raised over £300 for Cancer Research, selling over 100 books in the process.
